Early intervention LHSC StudentClinic Services
The Lexington Hearing & Speech Center provides a full spectrum of hearing and speech services including evaluation, therapy and consultation. More specifically these are:

Early Intervention
Our early intervention team includes a speech/language pathologist, audiologist, and the child’s parents. Other service providers may be included through Bluegrass First Steps, Kentucky’s Early Intervention Program. The early intervention team gives parents of children birth to three information, training, and counseling to help them understand their child’s communication needs. A specialized individual program is designed for each child and their family which facilitates the development of auditory, speech, and language skills. In addition to individualized therapy programs, we offer social playgroups to facilitate social language and play skills.

Cochlear Implant Services
The Center’s cochlear implant program has been in existence since 1990. We have provided direct and consultative services to approximately 80 cochlear implant patients in over 24 counties. Our Cochlear Implant Rehabilitation Team (CIRT) consists of an audiologist and speech/language pathologist who work with the candidate for a cochlear implant. They provide audiological and speech perception assessments to determine implant potential. The team coordinates pre-and post- implant training with the child, family, and other educators involved to monitor and facilitate program goals and provide educational support to ensure the child will receive the maximum benefit from their cochlear implant. Programming of the cochlear implant device and post-implantation (re)habilitation service which include auditory-verbal and auditory-oral therapy, is available to assist the client in the utilization of the implant. Cochlear implant in-services and training for county school systems is also available upon request.

Audiological Services
Our audiologists are available to provide auditory testing, middle ear evaluations, and hearing aid evaluations for all ages. Visual reinforcement equipment enables the audiologist to test infants and toddlers. Our audiologists also dispense hearing aids. Amplification equipment is available on a loaner or small fee basis.

Speech/Language Services
The Center’s outpatient clinic program provides on- and off-site screenings, in addition to in-depth speech/language evaluations, individual speech and listening therapy, and early intervention services.

LHSC Day School
LHSC provides a safe and appropriate early childhood environment in a state approved facility. Our day school operates year round serving children ages birth through seven. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The day school is located in a separate building next door to the Lexington Hearing & Speech Center.
