Clinical Services
The Lexington Hearing & Speech Center provides a full spectrum of hearing and speech services including consultation, evaluation and therapy. LHSC audiologist are trained to work with hearing aids and cochlear implants for babies, children and adults. Speech/language pathologist have training and experience working with a variety of pediatric speech and language disorders and delays, including auditory-verbal therapy with children with hearing loss and children with autism spectrum disorders.
LHSC accepts insurance, Medicaid and private pay with a sliding scale available. More information is available by calling (859) 268-4545.
Early Intervention
Early intervention is the key to ling-term success, and Lexington Hearing & Speech Center beleives in a team approach. Our early intervention team includes a speech/language pathologist, audiologist, and the childs parents.
This team works together to provide parents
of children birth to three information, training, and counseling to help understand their childs communication needs.
A specialized individual program is designed for each child and their family which facilitates the development of auditory, speech, and
language skills. In addition to individualized therapy programs, LHSC offers social playgroups to further develop social language and play skills.
Speech/Language Services
LHSC provides in-dept speech/language evaluations, individual speech and language therapy, small group therapy, auditory-verbal therapy and early intervention services. Two of only three certified listening and spoken languages specialists (LSLS) in the state of Kentucky work for LHSC. The center specializes in working with children with speech and language delays, including children with autism spectrum disorder.
Audiological Services
Audiologists are available to provide auditory testing, middle ear evaluations, and hearing aid evaluations for children and adults. Visual reinforcement equipment enables the audiologist to test infants and toddlers. LHSC audiologists also dispense hearing aids. Amplification equipment is available on a loaner or small fee basis.
Cochlear Implant Services
LHSCs cochlear implant program has been in existence since 1990, providing direct and consultative services
to patients from all over Kentucky. Our Cochlear Implant Rehabilitation Team consists of an
audiologist and speech/language pathologist who work with the candidate for a cochlear implant. They provide audiological and
speech perception assessments to determine implant potential. The team coordinates pre-and post- implant training with the child,
family, and other educators involved to monitor and facilitate program goals and provide educational support. These efforts ensure the child
will receive the maximum benefit from their cochlear implant. Programming of the cochlear implant device and post-implantation
rehabilitation service,including auditory-verbal therapy, is available to assist the client in the utilization of the implant.
Cochlear implant in-services and training for county school systems is also available to assist the client in the utilization of the implant. Cochlear implant in-services and training for the child's school system is also available upon request.
